Housing Team Leader (Private Sector Housing / Housing Standards)


Permanent, full time 37 hours per week with flexible working hours


Gloucester City Council is an ambitious council with big ideas and through our Together Gloucester Transformation Programme, we are beginning to build an exciting and innovative Housing team. Working alongside your Housing Manager and fellow Team Leader you will lead a range of housing professionals and lead on providing expert advice on a range of housing standards enquiries, proactive improvement work and grant provision.


Gloucester is a small, historic and vibrant city on the edge of the Cotswolds and conveniently located along the M5 with good transport links to the rest of the country.  Our offices are located in the historic dock area of the City and close to the City Centre.


You will be working within a generic Housing Team consisting of 24 officers working across a variety of tenures and aspects of housing and you will report directly to the Housing Manager. Working generically you will be responsible, along with the other Housing Team Leader for supervision, motivation, mentoring and support and associated supervisory activities including statistical analysis relating to the wider service.  Functions include, Housing Act inspections/enforcement including HMOs and caravan sites; administering Disabled Facilities Grants, (for which you will take a lead), Environmental Protection Act (nuisance) and Public Health Act enforcement There will also be opportunities to get involved in commissioning of new services, relationships with third party organisations and other local authorities.


The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of housing, nuisance and public health legislation, HHSRS and the provision of various grants including property adaptations.


Excellent communication skills are required and demonstrable experience of leading, motivating and developing staff to achieve performance targets is an essential requirement.
