We have a fantastic opportunity for the right people to be involved in the expansion of our restorative practice in schools project. After a very successful pilot scheme last year significantly reduced exclusions to virtually nil in two schools, we are excited to expand this programme to another six schools.
Restorative practices seek to develop good relationships and restore a sense of school community based on the understanding that decisions are best made and conflicts are best resolved, by those most directly involved in them. Restorative approaches are very much about working with individuals, to come to a long term resolution that benefits everyone by exploring the harm that has been caused, whom it has affected and how, and how it can be resolved or rectified.
We are looking for volunteers who show warmth and empathy, have strong written and verbal communication skills and can confidently use IT systems.
On successful completion of training and mentoring, this challenging and rewarding volunteer role will involve coordinating and facilitating restorative meetings between children and between teachers and children who are in conflict and / or where harm has been caused.
We provide in-depth restorative practice training, structured support, and reimburse out of pocket expenses, including transport costs. You will need to attend at least three group volunteer support / training sessions each year and there will be further opportunities to develop your skills and experience as this exciting project expands.
