Working at the 13th Century scheduled monument site, you will be responsible for the delivery of a varied and exciting events programme including live events, weddings, parties, festivals, and corporate hires. You will be part of the team that will ensure all visitors to the venue receive exceptional customer service and that all visitors walk away with positive memories of their time at Blackfriars Priory.
We can guarantee you that every single day will be different. You could be moving equipment and furniture in preparation for a room hire, you will ensure that weddings are special and memorable for our couples and their guests, that our live events (music, comedy, poetry, talks) all run to plan (and safely) as well as being there to reset the site back to its former historic beauty. You will also find yourself supporting the bar team on busy events.
The venue is also open as a visitor attraction from April to October and during this period, you will welcome and guide our visitors through the historic venue, sharing your knowledge through storytelling. A passion for history is desirable but if you have the confidence to speak to groups of visitors, we will provide you with the knowledge for you to share with our visitors.
We are looking for someone with experience in the events industry or within a cultural venue. Top quality customer service is an absolute must – we pride ourselves in delivering memorable experiences. You must be confident to talk to groups of people, be able to think on your feet and remain calm, positive, and professional when working under pressure.
You will be working in a small team under the supervision of a Duty Manager when on shift and a Team Leader providing operational direction. Subject to the events schedule, quieter periods will see you either taking time off in preparation for the busy season or supporting the development of the site through behind-the-scenes tasks. This is an active role where you will be on your feet a considerable amount and ask you to take this into account when applying for this role.
This role is one of several generic roles within Gloucester City Council therefore you may be asked to work from another cultural venue including Gloucester Guildhall and the Museum of Gloucester in supporting their programme – a great opportunity to gain new experiences.
You will also be on an annualised hours contract. The events/cultural industry is demand led therefore although most of our weddings and events occur during evenings and weekends (Thursday to Sunday), you may be asked to work any day of the week. We ask for flexibility from the role but we can also be flexible should you have any other commitments.
